German Brand to Integrate ChatGPT into Cars by 2024
ChatGPT is already on your smartphones, and in 2024, you’ll see the popular AI chatbot move to other bases like your car. That’s right, Germany’s Volkswagen has confirmed that ChatGPT will be fitted to its four-wheelers in the second quarter of 2024. The automaker plans to bring the feature to its customers in Europe for now, but the US market is likely to be part of the list in the near future.
ChatGPT basically helps Volkswagen (VW) car owners with basic tasks like turning on the air conditioner or helping them give quick answers. The company claims that a car voice assistant like ChatGPT could provide a natural communication channel between the car and the driver, which sounds quite appealing.
So why does a company want to bring ChatGPT into the car? “Enriching conversations, clarifying questions, interacting with intuitive language, receiving vehicle-specific information and much more – purely hands-free”, which basically means convenience, but also provides easier access to car-related information that can help with repairs. and service processes.
VW assures its customers (or anyone planning to buy a car) that using ChatGPT does not require you to register an account or install any app on your car or phone.
Certain VW cars, such as the Tiguan, Passat, Golf and VW electric vehicles, get the feature embedded in the steering wheel or by saying “Hey IDA” to activate the AI chatbot. The German automaker says that all questions and answers you ask the chatbot will be deleted immediately to ensure the best data protection. It uses the help of Cerence, which has enabled ChatGPT to work in its cars using third-party software integrated into the four-wheelers.
We’ve already seen cars support assistants like Alexa and Google Voice Command, so it’ll be interesting to see how the ChatGPT version of AI improves on existing features and the ecosystem.
